For September we built a home-defense pistol the way we’d keep one in our own house: short, equipped, and already sighted in.

The 13.7″ mid-length 5.56 barrel keeps overall length tight without turning it into a blast cannon. SB Tactical’s SBA3X brace keeps it a pistol so it stores and deploys like one. Faxon’s lightweight Gunner BCG and a 4.5 lb AT3 two-stage trigger keep the controls clean when your hands aren’t. The Sig Romeo5 Gen II / Juliet3 combo gives you a 2 MOA dot inside the house and 3x if you need it. The Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount 2L is there because a home-defense gun you can’t identify a target with isn’t a home-defense gun.
Dead Air’s Keymount micro brake is already on the muzzle if you ever want to run a can on it later. ESD’s AOR1 sling is on it so you can hang it, run it, or get both hands free without putting the gun on the floor.
