The SOTA Arms Big Bore Stripped Upper is still a standard AR-15-pattern upper receiver, so the enlarged ejection port does not prevent it from being used with conventional AR-15 cartridges when the rest of the build is configured correctly. Its main advantage is additional clearance for the wider brass used by cartridges such as .458 SOCOM, .450 Bushmaster, .50 Beowulf / 12.7×42, .375 SOCOM, and .358 SOCOM, where a standard-size ejection window may not provide enough room. It is also a practical option for 400 Legend builds because of the added clearance, although 400 Legend can generally function through a standard AR-15 ejection port. Starting with the larger window already machined avoids modifying a finished receiver when building around cartridges that need the additional space.
Note: The enlarged ejection port does not make the receiver caliber-specific. Use the correct barrel, bolt, magazine, gas-system components, and other parts required by the intended cartridge.
