Product Guides

Optics & Iron Sights

Do I need to use iron sights along with the RD-50 Red Dot Sight?

NO – Iron sights are not required to use our red dot sights! Our red dot sights can be used on their own. Many people choose to use iron sights as a backup, but they are optional. This red dot sight will work great on “optics ready” rifles that don’t have any iron sights.

What is the Ideal Range for Red dots?

The effective range for our red dots is 100-150 yards. Beyond that, you may want to get a red dot magnifier

Can your RD-50 handle the recoil of my shotgun?

Yes, our RD-50s were tested with a payload exceeding that of a .50 cal before they leave the factory, and they’re often used on shotguns and high-caliber pistols. Its shockproof circuitry should handle any recoil you throw at it.

What is RD-50’s center height?

With no riser, it’s about 1.6″ to the center of the rd-50.

Why do I see a red glare when I look through the sight?

A red glare across part or all of the lens is generally caused by a light in the room reflecting off the lens. Try changing lighting conditions, and the issue should go away.

Why does the red dot appear misshapen not like a dot? (“Starburst”, “Arc”, or “Comma” shaped reticle)

Generally, distortion in the red dot is caused by how your eye perceives the dot, due to astigmatism. Astigmatism is very common, but it’s not noticed until using a red dot sight.

To check the actual shape of the dot: try looking at the dot through your rear peep sight, or take a picture of the dot with a camera – most likely the dot will appear round in both tests.

If you are struggling with this issue, here are a couple of tips:

  • Reduce the brightness of the dot to the lowest setting where the dot is still clearly visible.
  • Try using the sight in better lighting conditions, like outdoors.
  • Try looking “through” the dot and focusing on the target, versus looking “at” the dot.
  • Still having issues? Contact us – we’re glad to help!

How do I turn off the LEOS sight?

Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.

On the LEOS model, what distance will the red laser go?

So the conditions will affect this (day vs. night, sunny or overcast, etc.). We’ve had reviews saying 75, but really I’d say 50 yards is what we’d represent as the max.

Can I mount ARO on my pistol that has the same slide cut as Venom/Fastfire?

The ARO cuts are not exactly the same as Venom. The mounting pegs and screws are in the same position but the ARO housing differs slightly from Venom housing. The ARO can use mounting plate adapters in the same pattern, but will not fit on handgun slides that are custom-milled for Venom red dot sights.

Do you have to remove the sight on the rifle to change the battery for your ARO?

No, it is a top side battery change. To change/remove the battery:
• Remove battery cap with the included screwdriver
• Insert a battery with positive (+) end up (Battery type CR1632).
• Tighten the battery cap using the screwdriver. Do not overtighten.”

Is the ARO Waterproof?

The ARO is designed to handle wet and rain but we won’t recommend it for complete water submersion.

Will the RCO work with your Magnifiers?

It will work, the magnifier can be adjusted to center in the circle dot with the included high riser in the RCO.

Does RCO has a motion detector and auto-off function?

Our RCO does have an Auto-Off feature after 6 hours but don’t have a motion detection function. To turn it ON, it just needs a one button press. It can be the – or +, and it remembers the last brightness setting.

Handguards and Gas System

Will your Spear handguard fit my AR15?

The SPEAR is specially designed for use with our matching Billet Upper Receiver as well as the majority of mil-spec AR-15’s on the market. In most instances, it will also require the use of a low-profile gas block that fits underneath the rail. This product will not work with non-milspec upper receivers like the Bushmaster Carbon due to the non-standard barrel threads, and it is not compatible with most piston kits as they won’t fit under the handguard.

Will your Spear handguard fit my barrel?

You’d just need a gas block that would fit your barrel and will sit underneath the rail. Here’s what I’d suggest: Wojtek Weaponry Adjustable Gas Block

Why your Billet Upper does not have a forward assist feature?

The usefulness of the forward assist is up for debate, and it’s generally a matter of preference (lots of people on both sides of this one).
But many folks don’t use the forward assist at all, so we decided to come out with the ‘slick side’ style of upper. There are several other manufacturers putting out this style as well, Aero and Anderson to name a few. None of us on staff really used the forward assist, and we wanted to put out something more unique, as well as tough and light.

What AR-15 parts will fit my 308/AR-10?

Generally, the product description or title will have 308 or AR-10 if it fits a 308 AR. The only parts exchangeable from an AR-15 to an AR-10 are the following:

  • Buttstock assemblies
  • Triggers and trigger springs
  • Bolt catch roll pin
  • Hammers and hammer springs
  • Pistol grips (a spacer may be needed for certain models)
  • Buffer Tube
  • Disconnector and disconnector spring
  • Buffer detent
  • Magazine release buttons and springs
  • Safety selectors

If the product isn’t titled or described with 308 or AR-10 then it is made for AR-15.

Will the Magpul furniture kit fit my AR?

All Magpul furniture kits have a carbine length handguard, read the below FAQ to learn more about handguard sizes, and are Mil-Spec only. If you currently have a Commercial buffer tube, we offer a Mil-Spec buffer tube you may purchase so the furniture kit will fit. Here is a link to the Mil-Spec buffer tube. Some of the color options may not match brands other than Magpul: FDE, OD Green, and Grey.

Handguard compatibility – Determining the right handguard

A low-profile gas block is generally needed for a free-float handguard. If you are looking at a drop-in handguard a measurement is needed. The place to measure on your AR barrel is from the front of the upper receiver to the back of the gas block/front sight.

Based on the measurement, the following lengths are the indicated gas system:

  • Pistol is 4.7″
  • Carbine is 7.8″
  • Mid-Length is 9.8″
  • Rifle is 13.2″

Once you determine the gas system length, you can choose the correctly sized handguard. If you don’t know the type of handguard you want to check out this article.

Will this Magpul furniture kit fit my AR?

All Magpul furniture kits have a carbine length handguard, read the below FAQ to learn more about handguard sizes, and are Mil-Spec only. If you currently have a Commercial buffer tube, we offer a Mil-Spec buffer tube you may purchase so the furniture kit will fit.

How to remove the Upper Ejection Port on your Billet Upper?

Our ejection port cover is a little different. So the rod that goes through it compresses on the left side — the right end is fixed. The only way to do so is to press that left side, compressing that tip. You’re going to want to push it further into the left side, that’s the reverse of how you install it. By doing that, you shorten the rod enough where you should be able to get the right tip out.

Terminology

Drop-in Quad Rail Handguard – Easy and quick to install, held together in place by the delta ring and front sight post/gas block

Free Floating Quad Rail Handguard – Harder to install, held in place only by the barrel nut attached to the upper receiver. They do not touch the barrel at any point allowing for free barrel movement during firing resulting in greater accuracy

Handguard – Installed over the barrel to protect your hands from the heat generated by operating the weapon, also provides a place to grip the weapon

Keymod Handguard – Free-floating handguards that allow the user to attach Picatinny rails in various places allowing for greater customization

Quad Rail Handguards – Handguards with rails (usually Picatinny style) allow for the attachment of various accessories such as grips, lights, optics, etc. Generally available in two styles.

Barrels & Muzzle Devices

What is the advantage of fluting the rifle barrel?

The fluting is more pleasing to the eye, as well as adds more surface area, and reduces overall barrel weight.

What barrel length is legal in the civilian world?

The answer to this question is 16 inches. However, as with many things in the firearms world, there are some workarounds to this.

Installing Armaspec SRS

You won’t find many accessories or parts that are easier to install than the SRS. Simply hinge open your upper receiver, remove your existing buffer and spring, and replace them with the Armaspec unit. I do recommend removing your buffer retaining pin before installing the SRS as I’ve found that with it in place, removing the Stealth, later on, can be challenging and may require a flathead screwdriver to depress the pin.

Armaspec SRS Info Sheet

Changing SRS Buffer weights

Changing the SRS’s buffer weights is very easy. At the rear of the unit, you’ll find a 3/32″ hex screw. Simply loosen it to separate the buffer’s base from the guide rod. Well, it isn’t quite that easy. You see, if you just try to loosen the screw, chances are good that you’ll also rotate the guide rod – getting you nowhere. If you depress the buffer slightly, you’ll find a cross-hole (also 3/32″) drilled in the guide. Place another hex key through the hole and hold it still as you loosen the screw on the unit’s backside. Once the end and guide rod are separated, both springs and the buffer weight will slide right off.
It is helpful to have a second hex key handy when disassembling the SRS.

Terminology

Buffer – a component that reduces the velocity of recoiling parts (such as the bolt).

Butt – The end of a gun stock; the part that rests on the shoulder when the gun is mounted

Buttplate – A plate made of some material harder than the wood of the buttstock, fitted to the end of the same to protect it. It may be made of hard rubber, horn, plastic, or steel. It may be shaped relatively flat like a Winchester “Shotgun” butt on a rifle, like a crescent, or with all manner of protruding appendages in the interest of achieving consistency of mounting position as in a Swiss or scheutzen buttplate. It may be finished smooth, checkered, striated, or engraved.

Lower Parts

Terminology

COMPLETE LOWER RECEIVER–  The term ‘complete lower receiver’ refers to the lower receiver, buttstock, buffer tube, buffer spring, pistol grip, magazine release, and fire control group as an entire assembly. A complete lower receiver is fully functional and will operate as a firearm if attached to an upper receiver.

80% LOWER RECEIVER– An 80% lower receiver is an unfinished receiver sold by the manufacturer. The percentage of 80% is designated to let the consumer know the milling process has not been completed. On an 80% lower receiver, the fire control recess area remains in its original state making the lower inoperable.

95% LOWER RECEIVER- A 95% lower receiver is much like an 80% lower. Its fire control recess area also remains unmilled and the lower is sold as such. The only difference between 80% and 95% lower is the upper receiver rear lug pocket has been machined on a 95% lower.

STRIPPED LOWER RECEIVER – A stripped lower receiver is a lower receiver that has been 100% completed and serialized by the manufacturer. Stripped lower receivers do not include a lower parts kit (LPK) and do require the installation of the LPK, buffer tube, and any part required to make the lower operational. Stripped lower receivers also require an FFL transfer and an ATF Form 4473 for purchase.

LOWER PARTS KIT (LPK) – The lower parts kit includes the necessary parts to make the lower receiver operate seamlessly with the upper receiver. Most lower parts kits include the hammer spring, selector, bolt catch, magazine release button, buffer retainer, and all necessary screws, pins, springs, and detents.

FIRE CONTROL GROUP (FCG) – The lower receiver’s fire control group refers to the trigger, hammer, sear, disconnect, springs and roll pins. There are the parts that allow the AR-15 trigger mechanism to function properly.

TRIGGER GUARD – The trigger guard rests directly under the fire control group and protects the trigger from accidental discharge. It is held by roll pins to the ‘ears’ of the lower receiver and is available in a multitude of configurations.

PISTOL GRIP – Where legal, the pistol grip serves the purpose of ‘grip manipulation’ for the lower receiver. Modern ergonomic designs also provide better trigger control along with helping the shooter effectively manage recoil.

BUTTSTOCK – The buttstock of the AR-15 is available in an array of variations. The most popular is the ‘collapsible’ buttstock. The buttstock is attached to the lower receiver’s buffer tower or buffer tube and provides the shooter with a stable shooting platform when the rifle is shouldered.
