“Rucksack” Compact 9mm 8.3″ AR-9 Pistol – Team Dream Build

“Rucksack” is a compact 9mm AR pistol born from AT3’s AR-9 builder video series. Built around an Angstadt Arms Glock-mag receiver set, 8.3″ AT3 barrel, STNGR HWK handguard, AT3 green dot, weapon light, sling, and 50-round drum, this Team Dream Build is made to show what a well-thought-out PCC pistol can look like when the parts are chosen with purpose.

  • About the build

“Rucksack” started as the finished build from our AR-9 video series, where the goal was to walk through the major decisions that go into building a pistol caliber carbine from scratch. Instead of throwing together a random parts pile, this build focuses on the pieces that matter most for a 9mm AR: the receiver set, barrel, bolt, recoil system, magazine compatibility, and accessories.

The heart of the build is the Angstadt Arms 0940 receiver set, which accepts Glock-pattern magazines and gives the pistol a dedicated AR-9 foundation. That matters because 9mm AR builds are not just standard AR-15s with a different barrel. Magazine geometry, bolt compatibility, last-round bolt hold-open, ejector setup, and recoil tuning all play a bigger role in getting a blowback 9mm build to run well.

The personality is simple: compact, green, and purpose-built. The OD green furniture and controls give the pistol a unified look, while the AT3 ALPHA green dot, Streamlight weapon light, Magpul MS4 sling, and KCI drum magazine make it feel like a complete video-series build instead of just a parts list.

    – “Rucksack” is a 9mm AR pistol built around a dedicated Glock-magazine receiver set. AR-9 builds can be more sensitive to bolt, buffer, spring, magazine, and ejector compatibility than standard 5.56 AR-15 builds, so final tuning may depend on the ammunition, magazine, and recoil setup used.

    – This build includes a pistol brace. The purchaser is responsible for ensuring the final configuration complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws before assembly or use.

Upper Receiver Parts

The upper is built around the Angstadt Arms 0940 upper receiver, AT3 8.3″ 9mm barrel, and STNGR HWK 7″ M-LOK handguard. This gives “Rucksack” a compact front end with enough length for a proper support-hand grip, light placement, and sling mounting without making the pistol feel oversized.

For the operating system, “Rucksack” uses the AT3 9mm nitride bolt carrier group. Since 9mm ARs run on a blowback system instead of a traditional AR-15 gas system, the bolt and recoil system are major parts of the build’s reliability and feel. The Breek Arms Sledgehammer charging handle adds easier manipulation and gas-diverting design features, while the Breek Arms Scorch 3-prong flash hider sets the muzzle up around the Breek-LOK 3QD system.

Lower Receiver Parts

The lower half of the Angstadt Arms 0940 receiver set gives “Rucksack” its Glock-mag compatibility and dedicated PCC layout. It is paired with a Geissele G2S trigger, Hogue modular rubber grip, AT3 OD green lower parts, and an SB Tactical SBA4X brace for a complete compact pistol setup.

The recoil system uses an Armaspec Gen 4 Stealth Recoil Spring for 9mm. On a blowback AR-9, the recoil spring and bolt mass matter more than they do on a standard gas-operated AR-15, and this captured recoil setup helps clean up the feel while reducing the typical spring noise of a standard buffer system.

ACCESSORIES

“Rucksack” uses the AT3 ALPHA Micro Green Dot Sight, matching the green theme while keeping the sighting system fast and simple for close-range PCC shooting. The Magpul MBUS front and rear sights give the build a backup sighting option if the optic is removed or unavailable.

A Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount 1L gives the pistol a compact weapon light that fits the build’s close-range purpose without adding unnecessary bulk. The Magpul MS4 sling adds flexible carry options and can be configured around the QD mounting points on the build.

The KCI 50-round drum magazine gives Rucksack the high-capacity PCC look that fits the video-build personality. Since the Angstadt receiver set is built around Glock-pattern magazines, the drum reinforces one of the biggest reasons shooters choose Glock-compatible AR-9s: magazine availability and variety.

The OD green furniture, controls, brace, handguard, charging handle, and sling tie the whole build together visually. Rucksack is not just a compact 9mm pistol; it is the finished version of a build series meant to show how the right AR-9 parts work together.
