Product description

Battle Arms Development AR-15 Buffers – Carbine and Heavy

Battle Arms Development provides high quality US made recoil buffers for your AR-15. These buffers come in a range of weights, from the standard 3.0 ounce carbine buffer, to the heavy H1, H2, and H3 buffers for tuning overgassed rifles. Be sure to pair this with a good quality carbine buffer spring if you’re starting on a fresh setup, or revamping an existing rifle.

Which Buffer Do I Need?

Which buffer weight your gun requires depends how your rifle is gassed. Most guns ship with a standard carbine buffer, but have overgassed barrels with enlarged gas ports to ensure reliability with weak ammunition. Typically, we recommend an H2 buffer to solve most issues in terms of recoil reduction and wear on mass produced rifles. But the fine tuning is ultimately up to your use and discretion.

I give these buffers my approval. Mine appear well made and work efficiently.
The cool company name doesn't hurt a bit either.

Questions & Answers 3

  1. I have a Diamond Back Ar, I installed an Frt in it, what buffer and spring do you recommend

    Bryan · Aug 10, 2026

AT3 Support Team — We recommend an H2 or H3 heavy buffer paired with an extra-power or flat-wire buffer spring to prevent bolt bounce and ensure reliable resets with an FRT.

  2. Which setup should be used I have m&p sport 2 ar 556

    Eric Evers · Aug 2, 2026

AT3 Support Team — For a Smith & Wesson M&P15 Sport II (16" barrel, carbine-length gas system in 5.56 NATO), here is the breakdown of which setup to choose: Recommended Setup: H1 (3.8 oz) or H2 (4.6 oz) Standard Carbine Buffer (3.0 oz): Matches the factory buffer that came in your M&P Sport II. It will run reliably with all factory ammo (including lower-powered steel case), but offers no recoil reduction. H1 Buffer (3.8 oz) — Best Overall Starting Point: The M&P Sport II is known to run slightly overgassed from the factory. Moving up to an H1 buffer adds weight to smooth out recoil, reduce internal wear, and maintain 100% cycling reliability with standard brass or steel-cased ammo.

  3. AT3- Will this work on my Colt AR15 9mm. Thanks

    Kevin · Jun 12, 2026

AT3 Support Team — No, standard AR-15 carbine buffers are too short and light for a direct-blowback 9mm system, which requires a longer, heavier (typically 5.5 oz or more) dedicated 9mm buffer to prevent parts damage.
