About the build
Carlos started as a compact 9mm SBR concept built around a simple goal: make an AR-9 that was quiet, soft-shooting, and different enough to start conversations at PCC matches. The build uses a short 9mm barrel setup, suppressor-compatible handguard, tucked muzzle system, and lightweight receiver set to keep the rifle compact and comfortable while still giving it an aggressive competition-ready profile.See Full Secs
The personality of this build is the real hook. Between the Battle Arms Development receiver set, the compact handguard, and the custom cell-shaded Cerakote finish, it has more character than a typical blacked-out PCC. The builder described the look as fun first, with a little “Alan from The Hangover” energy, and that fits the build perfectly.
This rifle was also built to be enjoyable behind the trigger. The original version (some substitutions were made for the dream build) used a Novox barrel system, suppressor setup, and KynSHOT hydraulic buffer to create a very soft, controllable shooting experience. That combination makes the rifle approachable for newer shooters, while still being interesting enough for experienced PCC shooters who appreciate non-standard AR-9 parts and tuning options.
Since this is a 9mm PCC, the build is best suited for range use, close-range shooting, and PCC-style match stages rather than longer-distance work. It is compact, quiet by design, and built to put a smile on your face more than chase tiny groups at distance.
– The original “Carlos” rifle was built as an SBR and included parts that may not be stocked for the final Dream Build kit. Because of that, the upper and lower will be sold separately where required, and the final production kit may use alternate parts that match the same general purpose and value of the original build.
– Like most AR-9 builds, some tuning may be needed depending on ammo, suppressor setup, bolt weight, and buffer configuration. A 9mm PCC can be extremely soft and reliable when tuned correctly, but it is not as plug-and-play across all setups as a standard 5.56 AR-15.
Upper Receiver Parts
The upper assembly for “Carlos” starts with a Battle Arms Development XIPHOS Lightweight Dedicated PCC AR-9 Upper Receiver and a Midwest Industries 9″ suppressor-compatible M-LOK handguard. A 4.5″ AT3 Tactical 9mm barrel keeps the package compact, while the extended KAK flash can gives the front end the tucked, aggressive PCC profile this build is going for.
Inside, the upper uses a KVP 9mm blowback bolt carrier group and a Breek Arms Sledgehammer gas-busting AR-15 charging handle. A Timber Creek low-profile M-LOK handstop rounds out the front end, giving the shooter a consistent support-hand reference point without adding unnecessary bulk. The red dot shown in the original photos is not included.
Lower Receiver Parts
The lower half of “Carlos” uses a Battle Arms Development XIPHOS Glock-compatible AR-9 billet lower receiver with a KynSHOT hydraulic buffer, KVP PCC XP spring, and Rise Armament RAVE PCC trigger to support the build’s soft-shooting 9mm setup. A FAB Defense GL-CORE stock, Die Free Co Kung Fu Grip, ambidextrous safety, QD end plate, and upgraded small parts round out the lower kit.
