Product description

Improved & Easy-To-Install Captive Buffer Weights For AR Builds

The Armaspec Sound Mitigation Buffer (SMB) Captured Gen 3 is a quick and easy replacement for your standard buffer and spring. It is designed to keep the buffer spring from rubbing against the inner wall of the buffer tube providing smooth and consistent operation as well as providing less noise when firing the weapon.

The SMB also helps significantly in reducing the felt recoil which results in an excellent return to target acquisition, giving the shooter more accurate follow-up shots.

Multiple Buffer Weights

The Armaspec Sound Mitigation Buffer (SMB) Captured Gen 3 is available in different buffer weights such as Carbine, Heavy, H2, H3, 9MM, and AR-10. (Please choose in the dropdown above for the correct buffer weight).

Note For 9MM: For proper function of the SMB in your 9mm rifle or pistol, the extra weight on the back of the bolt carrier needs to be removed. It is held in with a spring/roll pin.

Features:

  • Single-stage captured drop-in replacement for your standard buffer and spring
  • Reduce felt recoil
  • Keep the buffer spring from rubbing against the inner wall of the buffer tube providing smooth and quiet operation

These are AMAZING, I will be using in all my future builds, if you want a smoother operation experience and better fire control with frt capabilities that exceed your expectations. Shop no further. Just do your research and buy the right one.

Armaspec is only what I run in my ARs, this is my second one but 1st of the sound mitigation, it’s slightly quieter that the gen1 I was running, but I do plan on buying the gen4 version when I do my next build ! Best thing to
Run to get rid of that spring sound you get when firing ARs, plus i I got it on sale and steal!

Quiet. Operates flawlessly.

Well built and functioning perfectly reduced recoil and barrel rise and was able to engage follow up shots faster

Amazing product did exactly what I wanted it to do and that is make the action smooth as butter. Absolutely no reason to pay what other manufacturers are asking for similar products. This has been paired with an adjustable gas block and a sustained Industries JComo V2. Can't wait to test it with a range trip.

AT3 Tactical · We’re thrilled the SMB is giving you that butter-smooth action at a fraction of the cost, David, and we hope you have an absolute blast testing it out at the range with your new setup!

Fantastic value, cycles reliably and greatly reduces an overgassed gun.

Installed on my PSA 16" AR-15, swapped out the carbine weight buffer with the H3. It shoots .223 55 grain Hornady ammo reliably and ejects casings at the 3 O'clock position.

The Armaspec captured buffer worked exactly as advertised. The mil spec buffer spring noise is gone, recoil is less and much smoother. The gun runs great and is more fun to shoot. I highly recommend replacing you mil spec buffer with the Arrmaspec SMB.

Very satisfied with product. The shipping was super fast and the checkout in their site was easy. A company that I will come to and purchase from again.

Absolutely love it, was concerned at first that I didn't get a heavy enough of one, but turned out to be just a tad heavier than the original milspec buffer that came with my Radical RF-15. Sort of changes the recoil impulse, not in a bad way, just different. Now [link removed] isn't hard to keep on target but this does make it easier for faster followup shots. The only downside is navigating the hammer for installation and removal, but it would likely be easier if I removed the buffer retaining pin. All in all a solid upgrade!

Questions & Answers 15

  1. Which one of these buffer weights will work with ar15 .556 and a 14.5 barrel length

    Chris Garnett · Apr 16, 2025

AT3 Support Team — Thanks for reaching out I recommend H1 Thanks

  2. I'm acquiring parts for a 6.5 Grendel hunter build. I have the 18" light barrel with mid length port position and gas tube also . 875 gas block. A Grendel sight is having a combo velocity AR trigger- 3lb. Pull with a Gen3 SMB-H2 4.7oz. if you could, I need to know if this Gen.3 SMB is compatible with my upcoming build? Thank you in advance.

    Joe Martinez · Jan 27, 2025

AT3 Support Team — Yes, the Armaspec Gen3 Sound Mitigation Buffer (SMB-H2), which weighs 4.7 oz, is compatible with your upcoming 6.5 Grendel hunter build.

  3. I'd like to try one on a 5.56 with a 7.5" barrel, and a SB4 brace. Which one should I start with? And would that be the same one I'd also Use in a .300 BO, with the same setup? Thanks. Steve

    Steve · Nov 6, 2024

AT3 Support Team — For a 5.56 setup with a 7.5-inch barrel, starting with the H2 buffer (5.81 oz) is a good choice. This weight helps to mitigate recoil while ensuring reliable cycling, especially in shorter barrel configurations. If you plan to use the same setup for a .300 Blackout with the same 7.5-inch barrel, the H2 buffer would also be suitable in this case. The .300 BO typically operates well with H2 buffers, especially when using subsonic ammunition, which can help manage recoil effectively.
